Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then found multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests show the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for details.
A high-ranking political figure said the incident made him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
